Position:                              Kendall County Engineer

Office Location:                  Yorkville, Illinois

Full Time/Part Time:         Full time (40 hours/workweek)

FLSA Status:                       FLSA Exempt

Salary:                                

 The County Engineer’s salary follows the recommended salary schedule set by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).  The current salary for this position is $152,775/year.

With the upcoming retirement of the long-tenured current County Engineer, we are seeking a new visionary engineer to lead our Highway Department. Reporting directly to the County Board and County Administrator, you will be the architect of our long-term transportation strategy, overseeing multi-million-dollar capital projects, and shaping the infrastructure legacy of the region.

         What You Will Accomplish

  • Drive Strategic Growth: Develop and execute proactive, long-term infrastructure plans that support rapid commercial and residential expansion.
  • Modernize Operations: While leading the Kendall County Highway Department, continue to modernize and improve the efficiency of the Highway Department, from capital equipment inventory management to snow/ice removal strategies.
  • Maximize Financial Impact: Take ownership of the annual Highway Department budget, while actively identifying and pursuing alternative funding, grants, and strategic partnerships

         Core Responsibilities & Statutory Duties

  • Performs all statutory duties required by the Illinois Highway Code.
  • Oversees the Highway Department’s annual budget, financial operations, and the supervision of all departmental staff.
  • Develops and implements long-term infrastructure plans that support County growth and addresses current and future transportation needs.
  • Identifies and prioritizes road maintenance, improvement, and capital projects.
  • Collaborates with the U.S. Department of Transportation, IDOT, and local municipal and township officials regarding Kendall County infrastructure.
  • Directs emergency planning and recovery efforts for transportation infrastructure.

    Minimum Required Qualifications
  • The County Engineer must satisfy all qualification requirements set forth in 605 ILCS 5/5-201.
  • The County Engineer must successfully complete an examination administered by IDOT.
  • The County Engineer must maintain a current, valid Illinois Driver’s License (Commercial Driver’s License preferred).

     

    After completion of this recruitment process, the selected candidate is required by state law to be submitted by the Kendall County Board to IDOT for testing and interviewing to be certified by the State of Illinois prior to appointment by the Kendall County Board through a County Board resolution to serve as the County Engineer.
