The Kendall County Sheriff Merit Commission is establishing an eligibility list for:

PATROL DEPUTIES

Testing is being conducted to establish an eligibility list for current and future hiring needs.  The application/testing period is open until 11:59pm, Friday February 20, 2026.

This position is part of the IL Fraternal Order of Police Labor Council for Patrol Deputies Collective Bargaining unit. For more information, please see the union contract located on the Kendall County website (https://bit.ly/Union-Contracts) Annual salary is set at $72,851.86 with step increases set by contract.  The current contract expires on November 30, 2027.

ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES MUST BE:

  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen or an alien admitted for permanent residence or lawfully admitted for temporary residence who produces evidence of intention to become a citizen of the United States
  • Driver’s License: Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain an Illinois Driver’s license upon hiring
  • Age Requirements: Be twenty-one (21) years of age. An applicant may apply at age twenty (20), provided that no applicant shall be eligible for employment certification until their 21st birthday. There is no maximum age
  • Education: Must have a High School Diploma or have a certification of equivalency
  • Character: Must have no felony convictions, nor domestic violence criminal convictions, nor any misdemeanor conviction involving moral turpitude (50 ILCS 705/6), nor dishonorable discharge (U.S. Army RE-4 separation classification or equivalent) from the military
  • Eyesight: Eyesight must be correctable to 20/20, free of color and night blindness
  • Testing: Must be able to participate and successfully complete all phases of the testing which includes a physical agility test, written examination, oral interview, psychological evaluation, medical test, preemployment drug screening, and background investigation which includes polygraph
  • Firearm Owners Identification (FOID): Ability to obtain a FOID card and lawfully possess a firearm
  • Police Officer’s Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER): Must submit a valid POWER card by March 1, 2026. POWER cards should be dated between February 1, 2025 – March 1, 2026 (Standards can be found here)

Testing on the National Testing Network website will be open until February 20, 2026. Candidates are required to complete NTN’s REACT Test, PSSA and PHQ, and Sheriff’s Office application to move forward in the hiring process.

  2. Select Kendall County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois under the law enforcement job class.
  3. Complete and submit the exam by February 20, 2026, at 11:59 PM CST.
  4. Upload your DD214 and POWER card if applicable.
  5. Pay the $65 exam fee on the National Testing Network website. Current NTN users, there is just a $15 fee to transfer your scores.
  6. Complete the Sheriff’s Office internal application after finishing the written exam. https://bit.ly/Patrol2026

ACCEPTING LATERAL TRANSFER APPLICATIONS FOR PATROL

Are you already an IL Full Time Certified Law Enforcement Officer?  We are also accepting lateral applications for our patrol division.  Depending on the years of service salary rates may differ. If you are currently an active Illinois State certified Patrol Deputy with a minimum of two years of experience and in good standing, please contact Tracy Page at SheriffHR@kendallcountyil.gov

The Kendall County Sheriff's Office conducts testing for the positions of Corrections Deputy and Patrol Deputy approximately once every two years.  The eligibility lists for Corrections and Patrol are separate therefore the tests are held on different dates.  To be considered for both positions, one must participate in both testing cycles.  Check here to see if we are currently accepting applications or to see other career opportunities with Kendall County.
